Dear Change Makers, The new NFL season is finally here! Thanks to you, despite being clear underdogs, last year our grassroots movement of nearly half-a-million sports fans successfully pressured NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the league to finally give up its nonprofit tax-exempt status. But it doesn’t end there… For the past several years, our allies at the Sports Fans Coalition have been working to hold Roger Goodell, and professional sports leagues and teams accountable to the fans. They were instrumental both in ending the blackout rule, despite heavy lobbying from the NFL, as well as in helping us pressure the league to finally give up its nonprofit tax status. We have ignited a fan-led movement across the country. Our voice as sports fans can no longer be denied. Please see the below message from our friends at Sports Fans Coalition and answer their survey on Roger Goodell. Let’s keep going! Lynda ***** Dear Fans, Football is back and there is much reason to celebrate! Nevertheless, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has once again mired the league in controversy, scandal, and malfeasance, all while remaining virtually untouchable in his job and unaccountable to the fans. Whether it has been his role handling "Spygate," "Bountygate," "Deflategate," the lockout, concussions, blackouts, or the off-the-field domestic violence and child abuse cases, under Goodell, 'protecting the shield' has come to mean undermining the game we love and putting profits above all else at the expense of football fans everywhere. We don't think that's acceptable. Fans deserve to have their voices heard and it is that passion that has enabled us to play a major role in some of the most important changes in professional sports. We put together a brief survey that asks what you, the fans, believe of the job Roger Goodell is doing: http://www.sportsfans.org/goodell_survey?utm_campaign=goodell_initial&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sportsfans Earlier this year, we led the effort to end the Federal Communications Commission's 40-year-old blackout rule, resulting in a unanimous 5-0 vote to end the anti-fan regulation, despite heavy lobbying from the NFL. Shortly after that, the NFL suspended its local blackout policy for this season. We followed that up with another hard fought victory over NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the league by taking part in a joint campaign of nearly half a million sports fans and petition signers in states and congressional districts across the country that successfully pressured the NFL to give up its nonprofit tax-exempt status. Now, with these wins under our belt, we at Sports Fans Coalition decided that it was time to take our digital game to the next level. This is where you come in. Please fill out this survey and let us know where you come down on some hot button issues facing Roger Goodell and the NFL this season: http://www.sportsfans.org/goodell_survey?utm_campaign=goodell_initial&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sportsfans We also will enclose a comment section where we encourage you to weigh in via Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram on the job Goodell is doing as commissioner, which we will pass along to league headquarters.
