Each year 50,000-100,000 horses are sent to slaughter in Canada and Mexico,  from homes and stables in the USA.  These are horses that have devoted their lives to serve the people that have owned them.  The may have been used in horse sports such as racing, eventing and show jumping,  or they may be long time teachers of young riders,  or backyard pets.  People sell their horses expecting they will be fine and have a good home but at some point their value becomes a meat value for across our borders.  The slaughter of horses is not a kind thing,  it is an excruciating painful death.  The trip to slaughter can be worse with horses being trampled by other horses as they lose their balance in jam packed trailers. It is a horrifying end to a life dedicated to the service of human beings.   Please pass legislation to ban the slaughter of horses.  It is an unnecessary and most inhumane destruction of these animals. If Canada and Mexico will stop this practice these horses will not be disposed of in such an abhorrent manner.
