The Issue

Pole Green Park in Hanover County stands as one of our community's most cherished spaces for athletic and recreational events. Whenever I visit, whether it's for youth football, soccer, cross-country meets, tournaments, or larger community gatherings, I am struck by how heavily these grounds are utilized. Its significance as a vibrant hub for families and local events is clear to anyone who spends time there. However, what's also striking is the limitation posed by having only one primary route – Pole Green Road – serving as the access point for all attendees.

Given the sheer number of visitors during peak events, this singular route not only becomes congested and stressful for drivers but also poses potential safety risks. Emergency vehicles may face delays, and visitors could experience extended travel times, which can dampen the joy of participating in community activities. Moreover, in any emergency or evacuation scenario, having just one entry and exit route could critically hinder efficiency and safety.

Therefore, I am calling on Hanover County officials (Hanover Board of Supervisors) to initiate a comprehensive traffic, emergency-access, and engineering feasibility study. This study would evaluate the potential for establishing a secondary entrance and exit for Pole Green Park. Such a measure would aid in alleviating traffic congestion, enhancing emergency response times, and ultimately enriching the park experience for everyone.

The need for a second route is not just about convenience; it's about ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our community. According to reports, communities that invest in infrastructure improvements, like additional access roads, see a marked improvement in overall safety and satisfaction.

By conducting this study, the county can determine the most effective way to achieve these benefits without compromising fiscal responsibility or environmental concerns. Potential solutions could include road expansion, creating alternative access via adjacent properties, or improved traffic management systems.

This initiative is crucial for the ongoing safe and thriving use of Pole Green Park. I urge all fellow community members and park supporters to come together to show county officials how much we care by signing this petition. Let's take a proactive step in ensuring Pole Green Park continues to be a welcoming, safe, and accessible venue for both routine visits and major events.
