Create a Junction Village Development Task Force

The Issue

To ensure the best use of this land and all facets of its development are properly examined in conjunction with any other plans for West Concord that are already underway, we ask for you to sign this petition to the Planning Board to show your support of assigning a Junction Village Task Force.

Concerned Citizens of Concord: Your voice has had an impact – the Concord Housing Development Corporation (CHDC) withdrew the Junction Village portion of its application for 2014 Concord Preservation Committee funding after over 200 residents signed the initial petition . It was a positive outcome, but the question of what will be built on the Junction Village site is still far from being resolved. Recently the CHDC notified the Concord Planning Board that it was changing its focus from building 110+ apartment units to developing an affordable assisted living project with 83 units as well as a 5 person group home. The CHDC's new assisted living proposal addresses some of the issues initially raised, but it also introduces new ones. The community must continue to speak out to ensure that the right type of project is built. Any project should conform to the Town's plans and policies while it helps meet Concord's affordable housing goals. The open space component of the site must also be considered in any development proposal. A task force composed of key stakeholders (Planning Board, West Concord Advisory Committee, WinComm Neighborhood Assn., Recreation Committee, Natural Resource Commission and Concord Housing Development Corporation) would be in the best position to determine the configuration of the site that would best meet all of the Town's objectives. The Concord Planning Board will be making its recommendation to the Board of Selectmen at their next meeting –Tuesday April 15, at 141 Keyes Road. The meeting begins at 7PM, and Junction Village topic is scheduled for 7:45PM. The Planning Board needs to hear from you to make the right recommendation about the Junction Village project. Please sign this petition, write to the Planning Board in care of Marcia Rasmussen (mrasmussen@concordma.gov), and/or attend the Planning Board meeting on Tuesday evening.   The meeting only lasts a couple of hours; whatever Junction Village becomes will last decades. Spend a little time now to create a better West Concord tomorrow. Together, we can do it!
