Complete the rebuilding of the Cagayan de Oro City Public Library
The Issue
The rebuilding of the Cagayan de Oro City Public Library began on September 10, 2019, with the project originally expected to last two years. Seven years later in September 2026, the building is still a skeleton frame.
The Cagayan de Oro City Public Library is a source of information and knowledge. But because the permanent building stays incomplete, the City Public Library continues to operate within the City Central School campus. The temporary library has three classrooms for administration, reading, and technical services, where books are stored and processed. It has limited books on display and only three tables for visitors.
This prolonged delay in completing the Cagayan de Oro City Public Library has limited the community’s access to a public learning and research space for years, particularly for students, researchers, children, educators, and other residents who rely on free and accessible learning resources.
After seven years, the need for library services is still strong. With the rebuilding having reportedly restarted in January 2026, the need for transparency and concrete action is crucial than ever before. Yet with the project still unfinished, Cagayan de Oro City Public library needs updates and real action to finally finish the building
We call the City Government of Cagayan de Oro and its contractors to provide updates on how the rebuilding of the Cagayan de Oro City Public Library is going, as well as set and share a completion timeline, for we want the project finished without any further unnecessary delays so the community can access adequate public learning and research space.
Sign this petition and demand the City Government to take concrete action and timely completion of the Cagayan de Oro Public Library, and to keep transparency, accountability, and good public service.
Together, let us be a step closer to progress and finally open the doors of this library.
