The Senate Inquiry is moving fast: http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Community_Affairs/MedicalComplaints45
Out of 104 submissions, approx 24 (numbers are evolving) are in the public domain: I have been told by Dr Joel Bateman (Chief bureaucrat coordinating this at the Senate), that the formal use of a broad paint brush is to 'protect the public' from legal action - as they have mentioned names and institutions! Wow! Look at the fine print.
Confidential submissions to Parliamentary Inquiries are NOT protected by Parliamentary Privilege (needs to be validated). If they fall into the wrong hands litigation may proceed.
Nonetheless, the first hearing is on 1 Nov 2016 in Sydney and THREE HPARA Members have been called: two as individuals.
Also on the grill are the RACS and RACP plus the Administrators, Anaesthetists, AHPRA and the Medical Board of Australia and Nurses and Midwifery Board etc.
To equip them better there is no better time to send them some more stuff by the opening of business on Monday 31 Oct 2016. Joel has confirmed that despite the Website notice, they ARE still accepting submissions (though correspondence can go in throughout the year)
Please take heed and be serious. You can make a difference. These people are going before the Select Committee under Oath - and proceedings will be recorded in the Hansard.
Now is the time to ask penetrating and correct questions!
The first day was already very revealing.
