Dear Friends, The recent announcement by Ms Jill Hennessy, MP through the Premier’s Office in Victoria appears misleading. http://www.premier.vic.gov.au/statement-from-the-minister-for-health It is misleading because it asserted that the Auditor General’s Office had been directed to perform an audit on Workplace Bullying in Victorian Public Hospitals. This is not accurate. The request is for the AG to look at this as part of the ongoing audit on occupational violence. I have confirmed via a conversation with Mr Richard Foale of the Auditor General’s Office in Melbourne that the idea of an audit is only being floated for discussion as part of the next financial year’s activities i.e. for Fiscal Year beginning Jul 2015! This being the case, I strongly encourage you to write individually to the Auditor General at: Auditor General of Victoria Level 24, 35 Collins Street Melbourne Victoria 3000 or, upload via the website on http://www.audit.vic.gov.au/contact_us/concerns_and_suggestions.aspx Please express your displeasure about Workplace Bullying of any form and in particular the culture of hospitals and the health professions in Australia. On the side of a formal group, Dr Don Kane, FRACP who is Chair of the Health Professionals Australia Reform Group (soon to be registered) has agreed to consider writing to the Auditor General. Mr Foale has realiably informed that the impact to secure an audit of workplace bullying and harassment in Victoria Hospitals will likely to be increased if many complainants wrote in i.e. it is only likely going to be on the Agenda if there many persons request it. Every single letter counts! Also, it would be useful to ‘educate’ your local Victorian MP and to apply the same persuasion for this to proceed Sincerely, Leong Ng
