As the family of a victim of adult clergy sexual abuse by Father Samir Haddad of St Joseph Melkite Catholic Church - Fairfield, we are deeply frustrated and profoundly disappointed by the continued failure of the Melkite Catholic Eparchy of Australia, New Zealand and All Oceania to address our complaint with honesty, transparency, and moral responsibility.

We have already made the facts clear through our public petition and updates. We have shared credible evidence, including direct text message exchanges from Father Samir Haddad. We have spoken openly about the harm caused, the misuse of spiritual authority, and the devastating impact on our family.
Yet despite this, we are met with silence, delay, and what we believe to be misleading narratives.

This is unacceptable.

Our online petition clearly outlines serious concerns: the alleged sexual exploitation of a vulnerable young adult, member of youth group of St Joseph Melkite Catholic Church - Fairfield, the abuse of spiritual authority, and the lack of transparency from Church leadership in addressing these allegations.

This is not a private matter.
This is not a misunderstanding.

And this is not something that can be managed behind closed doors.

When leadership fails to act transparently, it does not protect the Church—it damages it. When truth is withheld, trust is broken. When accountability is avoided, harm is repeated.

We reject any attempt to minimise or obscure the reality of what has occurred, including misleading information regarding Father Samir Haddad’s absence from St Joseph’s Melkite Church in Fairfield, Melbourne. We continue to question the integrity and intent behind the announcement made by the leadership of the Melkite Catholic Eparchy of Australia, New Zealand and All Oceania, during the Sunday Mass on 22 September 2024.

The Church teaches moral responsibility, justice, and truth. Those principles must apply not only in words—but in action. Because as our petition itself states: “It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable.”
