We believe that Father Samir Haddad has sexually exploited a vulnerable young adult, a member of the church’s youth group, over several years. At the time, this individual was emotionally and mentally vulnerable, and the repeated misconduct has had a devastating impact on their mental health, including multiple instances of suicidal ideation.
We believe this behavior represents a serious abuse of spiritual authority and trust that was placed in Father Haddad by the families and members of St Joseph’s Melkite Church.
Despite having formally reported our concerns to the church leadership, the last response we received was on 18 September 2024 (a copy of which has already been shared). Since then, we have made repeated attempts to seek updates, but have received no further communication or clarity regarding the status of our complaint.
We are deeply alarmed by the lack of transparency and accountability demonstrated by the church leadership in this matter. As members of the community and advocates for the truth, we believe it is our right—and our duty—to share our experience and demand justice.
