Where has the election left Infected Blood compensation?

On 22nd May, one day after the government announced its initial compensation plans, the Prime Minister called a general election. Fortunately, the Victims & Prisoners Bill (VAP Bill) was rushed through parliament before dissolution and became law on 24th May. By becoming law, this act of parliament established the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA), which Sir Robert Francis chairs.
The IBCA is not yet operational or accepting compensation claims. Throughout this month, the community is engaging with Sir Robert on the final regulations for compensation, which must be laid by mid-August according to the VAP Bill.
There is still much uncertainty, and it remains the case that most bereaved families, such as Sam's, have received no compensation at all. We still have a lot of work to do.
The publication of the Infected Blood Inquiry's report on 20th May brought much attention to our campaign. However, the media spotlight was quickly diminished with the announcement of the general election.
This petition remains critical in demonstrating the urgency of compensation for victims and bereaved families.
