The impact of cold homes on our healthcare system is severe and tragic, resulting in excess winter deaths. Last year alone, the UK saw 4,950 such fatalities from cold homes. It is essential to act on this crisis promptly. Our Member of Parliament for Hyndburn and Haslingden, Sarah Smith, must cast a vote in favour of a means-tested winter fuel allowance at the upcoming session on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. 

Age UK's alarming reports show us that in the last decade, cold homes have led to a quarter of a million deaths among older individuals in the UK. Furthermore, estimates predict that around 10 million pensioners are at risk of losing their winter fuel allowance payment due to this Labour governments policy that was not in their manifesto.

We, the people of Hyndburn and Haslingden, call upon Sarah Smith MP to support survival of our most vulnerable citizens, by advocating for a means-tested approach to the winter fuel allowance. Please make your voice heard on this critical issue by signing the petition.
