Dear Gov. Newsom,
I’m writing in strong support of the commutation of sentence for Darren L. Robinson (CDC #E18243).
Darren was a troubled 19 year old when he was arrested 34 years ago during the “tough on crime” era. Now 52, he has worked hard to educate himself and achieve rehabilitation in prison and is one of the strongest candidates you’ll ever see to have his sentence reduced.
While in prison, Darren has earned six associates degrees and a bachelors degree, graduating magna cum laude. He has taken every self help class that was available to him. He’s been a long-standing participating member of AA, has been teaching other inmates to read, training shelter dogs, and was one of the founding members of the Inmate Leadership Legacy Council.

When released, Darren is committed to giving back to the community and dreams of helping people overcome their addictions just as he has.
Darren is a kind, polite, loving, and thoughtful person who will be an asset to our community. His family, friends and large Native American support network are eager to welcome him back.
Please commute Darren’s sentence and allow him to return to society as a self-sufficient, productive member. It’s certain that Darren will contribute positively to communities outside of prison, just as he learned to do while incarcerated.
