Whispering Pines claims to be a BIRD SANCTUARY however they go to the "bird island" and oil the new eggs each year.

THE POINT OF THIS IS FOR WHISPERING PINES, NC TO NO LONGER BE A BIRD SANCTUARY OR STOP OILING THE GEESE EGGS! 

SAVE THE GEESE! Stop the killing or take your signs down! 

I am new to the area but I was recently informed of the history of the island. A good friend of mine was told by Mr. Comer, a career realtor that watched our town grow... When the lake was lowered to build the current large dam, a lakefront resident was permitted at his own cost to clean up the lake bottom and create the island. The man lived in a house that faces the island and created a backyard full of lake boulders and a Bambi statue. 

He paid for and built a cement bulkhead around the island, had the island planted with azaleas, camellias, pyracantha, and native trees, and had electric lighting installed around the perimeter. When he died, he bequeathed the island to Campbell University as a wildlife sanctuary. The town purchased the island from the college. The killing of Canada geese eggs is in violation of his wishes.

Please stop this practice. It may be legal but it is morally wrong and ignores the town signage motto of being a bird sanctuary.
