Dear Fellow Voters,

I'm sure this message will find you on your way to cast your ballot for April Mills and Stephanie Wade for Carrboro Town Council—as early voting has begun!

These candidates have been working tirelessly to meet with as many people as possible. They have canvassed every door in Carrboro, held many neighborhood meet & greets, attended forums, answered questionnaires—and hopefully had the chance to connect with you! If not, I urge you to reach out to them.

Can you imagine the challenge of being non-incumbent, non-slate, independent candidates? Have you noticed that the other candidates formed a slate and are endorsed by current council members? Does it make you want to learn more about the money and power structures controlling even local politics? Perhaps not, perhaps you'd prefer not to think about it because it's frustrating. I do not blame you if so. But I'm sure we can agree that group think is unhealthy for democracy and our community.

The current council and their slate of candidates are ignoring many people in our community. The irony is that while their plan for expanding Carrboro’s tax base is through annexation, they ignore concerns of those areas with regard to traffic safety, infrastructure, and environmental impact!

As we increase density we must also find solutions to make Carrboro livable for everyone (current and new neighbors). We need a holistic flooding and stormwater management plan. We must acknowledge the impact on schools and families—and not by paying lip service to safe biking and walking while simultaneously increasing car traffic through neighborhoods.

Thank you for reading and happy voting!
