Lyn’s Lunchbox on Birkdale Drive in Preston has been open for 6 years and the building used as a cafe by local residents for over 15 years. We are a community hub, offering elderly an vulnerable locals a safe place to come and share good food and a chat with friends.

Over the last 6 months we have been working with Community Gateway to work out a way to future proof our family business in new buildings they were creating as part of the improvements plans for the estate. We were assured that, whilst the current buildings were being demolished and rebuilt, they would provide us with temporary accommodation on the estate so we can continue to run our family business and provide our local community with a safe space to access good home cooked food and company. 

As of yesterday (1/5/19) we have now been told that our lease for the premises will NOT be being renewed in August as they are no longer going to be building ANY shops at all. The only building being rebuilt will be the library. No hairdressers, no Newsagents and no local cafe. 

Not only are we devastated at the prospect of losing our family business that we have worked desperately hard for for 6 years to build up. We believe this will have a detrimental effect on the community as a whole, from the school children and families that come in to access affordable breakfasts and lunches to the elderly residents who sometimes, we will be the only faces they see day to day.
