Mayor deBlasio Must Step Down While Investigations Are Going On
Mayor deBlasio Must Step Down While Investigations Are Going On
The Issue
Mayor de Blasio is the focus of the FBI and Preet Bharara’s federal prosecutors.
Too many tips of quid pro quo lead back to City Hall, which is now the target of these probes. It looks as if the Mayor’s three slush funds, the ones that good-government groups blasted as a “shadow government,” have a bull’s-eye on them.
De Blasio raised $4.36 million from among others, real estate developers and others who expected it was a good "investment"...they were right.
Three non-profits were incorporated apart from his official campaign and not beholden to limits nor campaign finance laws.
No coincidence that one of them: the Campaign for One New York -was just announced as being closed...kinda' like Cuomo's Moreland Commission?
Real estate developers were at the heart of the Bharara corruption convictions of Skelos and Silver.
Ultimately, the issue is what, if any, favors the donors got in exchange for their cash. Were there illegal quid pro quos? Until these are answered, the Mayor must step down and let the governance of New York City be above reproach
