Free Parking at Columbia College

Free Parking at Columbia College
Students are required to pay for parking at Columbia College and are ticketed if they fail to do so. There is not adequate reasoning to require students to pay for parking. Signing this petition shows a student body interest in acheiving free parking for the entire college.
Information:
General Concept: There is a parking fee at Columbia College. Students can buy parking permits each semester or pay the daily fee. The general public also has to pay for parking.
Why This is a Problem:
The amount of money that is made on permits is not substantial.
A lot of money is made off of the ticketing done by campus security. These tickets are reported to the DMV.
Though Financial Aid can make attending school much cheaper (if not free), it does not go towards parking.
The daily parking pass meters do not take credit cards and are often broken.
Columbia is one of the only places in the county that charges the public for parking.
There is no free parking option for students. At Modesto Junior College (which is part of the district parking regulations) students can park farther away and walk to campus. At Columbia this is not an accessible option.
Parking was the third Guided Pathways issue for Columbia College and progress has not been made yet.
What Can You Do?
For starters, sign this petition! A large part of making this change is going to come from the students demonstrating they care about this topic. This petition will show administration and the district that we would like to see changes made.
Thank you for your participation in bettering our campus!
