The SPCA is the only organization that has the legal mandate to take punitive action and therefore the effective implementation of the Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals Act. But unfortunately the SPCA is a defunct organization and has not had a single meeting in the last decade or more. In the last two years we have sent several letters to the Collector and have had one face to face meeting also, but to no avail. This petition is to revive the SPCA in Coimbatore

The petition that we sent last year had only 662 signatures. We need to get a lot more signatures to get the attention of the authorities

Everyday people call us to help for some case of animal abuse, poisoning of dogs, overloading of carts, ill treatment of pets etc. But without an SPCA, we cannot do anything. The regular police are extremely busy with other law and order issues, whereas the SPCAs only focus is animals. 

Every district is mandated to have an SPCA with the District Collector as the ex-officio head. But sadly, we do not have an effectively functioning organization. Please sign the petition to convene a meeting and reconstitute the SPCA board.
