Reinstate Coffs Harbour Bulk Waste Kerbside Pickup

Reinstate Coffs Harbour Bulk Waste Kerbside Pickup
Why this petition matters

We the undersigned residents and rate payers of Coffs Harbour City Council, petition the council (Mr McGrath, General Manager) and Ms Knight, Mayor and the councillors to:
1... reinstate the Bulk Waste Kerbside Pickup which was ceased with minimal community consultation, the results of which were not made public, and replaced with a voucher system. The replacement system is expensive, considering ratepayers already had a levy included in their rates for this service, which was not refunded when the service ceased.
The voucher system provides two vouchers pa which have to be applied for and come by post which is very slow and two pickups pa at $44 each, which is organized by phoning waste services and attended when they have a pickup organized. The vouchers and the pick ups are not interchangeable. The maximum amount of waste is 200kg per time, which is not a lot.
For those who are elderly, infirm, pensioners, low income earners or those who do not own a trailer, the cost of the Bulk Waste Service can be prohibitive. The vouchers are only redeemable at Englands Road tip, this is a long way for people who live on the outskirts of the Coffs Harbour City Council Area to travel to dispose of their bulk waste. The bulk waste kerbside pickup did provide the opportunity for recycling before collection, thus reducing the bulk waste going to landfill.
It would appear that there is an increase in dumping in public areas and parks since the bulk waste kerbside pick up was ceased.
2...advertise for tender, the recycle facility at the council Englands Road tip, to reduce disposal of items into landfill, that could be recycled
3...act responsibly and in the best interests of the residents of the community, by actively researching solutions to the council's perceived problems with the bulk waste kerbside pickup, in order to facilitate the speedy re introduction of this service, and responsible recycling of bulk items. After all, bulk waste kerbside pickup is a service in many, many cities and towns throughout NSW.
