NO Sewage Pump Stations on Lake Allatoona

NO Sewage Pump Stations on Lake Allatoona
The Issue
On the Corps Property line just feet away from Lake Allatoona, the City of Acworth wants to install 2 sewage pumping stations. Both of these sewage pumping stations will be directly across the lake from Proctor Landing, just around the corner from Dallas Acworth Beach and Old Hwy 41 Day Use, and less than a mile from the drinking water intake valve at the Block House.
Sewer pump stations are machines. All machines break at some point or they wear out. These are expected to last about 15 years. When there are heavy rains, the sewage overflows. Sewer pump stations also have a reputation for backing up and the sewage overflows because people flush things like diapers and large items that cause stoppages. Sewer pump stations require electricity to run. When the power goes out, as it frequently does, they stop pumping and the sewage overflows. They attract lightning and are disabled by strikes causing the sewage to overflow.
Sewage overflows are never pleasant regardless of where they are located. However, when sewage enters a drinking water source, it is disastrous. When sewage enters a recreational area, people get sick.
Lake Allatoona is a major source of drinking water for the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. It is also a very popular recreational lake for boating, fishing, and swimming. It generates revenue for Cobb, Bartow, and Cherokee Counties.
Please, sign this petition to tell our officials to keep our drinking water and our lake clean and safe.
Thank you!
