Hello all!

I recently met with CUSD's assistant superintendent, Denver Stairs, regarding our petition to ban the use of glyphosate-based herbicides (RoundUp) on CUSD campuses.

He demonstrated some ways they have previously tried methods to reduce weeds (mulch, rocks scape, burning, etc). He held a meeting to discuss the possibility of spraying during "off-hours" of school, which is already a commitment noted in the CUSD Student Handbook.

I asked him how they would monitor the treatment of RoundUp on campuses to ensure that the treatments are not performed during school hours, as I had observed in September 2019. He has promised that they will "do their best" to spray when children are not on campus.

For now, here is one positive step in the right direction. Thanks to our petition, CUSD has decided to try an alternative for SIX MONTHS, by swapping swap RoundUp for a different herbicide (Cheeta Pro) on ELEMENTARY school campuses. Here is the safety data sheet: http://www.cdms.net/ldat/mpFPT001.pdf

Unfortunately, they have decided that they will continue the use of RoundUp on Middle School and High School campuses. Stairs indicated that these students are less susceptible to the effects of RoundUp in their environment.

We must continue to use our voices to share our concerns about the widespread use of glyphosate on our CUSD campuses. Please lend your voice to urge CUSD to BAN RoundUp at school! It's bad for our health, our air, and our water.

Please call CUSD and let them know: BAN CHEMICALS that are known to the State of California to cause cancer! Please be polite, and urge them to do MORE to protect our children. Thank you!
