Hi everyone,
A quick update on what’s happening with the Service Lane — and thank you again for all your ongoing support!
The City of Gold Coast has confirmed that the service road will be reopened from the Gold Coast Highway later this year. This will directly affect residents, especially as we’ve already seen how the street can turn into a busy cut-through during previous roadworks.
What’s frustrating is that there’s still no clear plan from Council about how they’ll monitor or manage the traffic impacts once it reopens — or how they’ll keep residents informed.
To give you some background:
In 2023, I asked the GCLR3 team whether any traffic modelling had been done to assess the impact of closing Kelly Avenue from the Highway and shifting traffic onto the service road. At the time, I was told no such reports existed.
Then in August 2025, I was told the opposite — that traffic modelling had been conducted to support the closure and assess the effect on our service road.
Despite this, no reports have been shared, and no information has been provided about how future traffic conditions will be assessed once the road is reopened.
I’ve now lodged a formal complaint with Council, asking for:
- The release of the traffic modelling and any assessment reports
- A plan for how traffic impacts will be monitored post-reopening
- Clear, ongoing communication with residents
Our street deserves transparency and proper consideration — especially when safety is at stake.
I’ll continue pushing for answers and will keep you updated as soon as I hear more. In the meantime, please keep sharing the petition to help get more eyes on this issue and hold Council accountable.
Thanks again for standing with me on this.
