Actualización de la peticiónClose the Family Court Gap for Abuse Survivors Without Shared ChildrenToday's coverage in the Haslemere Herald

The Haslemere Herald ran a piece on this petition this morning.

It set out the bit that has been hardest to get heard. Under UK family law, domestic abuse survivors who don't share children with their abuser are falling through the cracks. Practice Direction 12J, the rule that requires the family court to take a structured, pattern-based approach to abuse in child arrangement cases, does not extend to standalone non-molestation applications under the Family Law Act 1996.

That's the gap this petition asks Parliament to close.

I told the Herald what happened when I tried to use the system. My former partner skipped the first hearing, came back with a counter-application, and the court issued cross-undertakings: mutual promises, no findings of fact. I left treated as the legal equivalent of the man I'd asked the court to restrain.

A judge later described the conduct in the case as "aggressive" and "deplorable". That wording did not stop the financial proceedings that followed.

If you've already signed, please share the Herald article. Local press is what reaches the MPs who can amend the rules.
