The current back to school plan for elementary and middle schools includes no reduction in class sizes, which essentially means that in many or most classes, we will have groups of 30 or more, with poor ventilation and no space for physical distancing. This disregards the evidence that small class sizes are needed, as well as the advice from the latest Sick Kids report stressing that we must prioritize reducing class sizes in any school reopening plan. We need a plan that follows the evidence and the expert advice, and keeps our communities safe.
