The South Chingford Resource Hub is run by Age UK Waltham Forest and Reaching Out East to provide services and support to older and disabled residents in Waltham Forest. It supports the activities of eight groups including the Waltham Forest Low Vision Forum, Waltham Forest Parkinsons Group and NELFT Falls Prevention Service. The Hub also provides low-cost computer training, exercise classes and social get-togethers for older people and a free counselling service.
Waltham Forest Council granted Age UK Waltham Forest a new five year lease from October 2016 but this has a “break clause” in it allowing the Council to end the lease on six months’ notice. The Council have told Age UK that they intend to serve notice to do this.
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, ASK THE COUNCIL TO:
1 Suspend any action to terminate Age UK Waltham Forest’s lease and close the South Chingford Resource Hub
2 Consult with the service providers, service users, commissioners and the community over the future of the building and services
3 Retain the provision of these services from this location in future, either in the existing building, or as part of any future redevelopment
