Last night the Public Council meeting was packed to the rafters and nearly called off due to overcrowding in support of our Norman! Thank you all who came and spoke and supported ! Thank you also to all those who sent messages of support and encouragement beforehand, thank you to those who came and introduced themselves to me and thank you to all of you who have signed and shared this petition! You are all amazing ! The youths of the community did Norman especially proud - they spoke out too and it was an emotional thing to see and be a part of. Last night the council made a statement saying that the usual vetting and HR would need to be conducted before Norm returned to work and we questioned why that needed to be done since nothing has changed and no charges have been made nothing has changed in Normans ability to do the role... The council just said it was a process that had to be done by the police and had nothing to do with them. More discussion followed who had instigated the re vetting process ... that I fear will be an ongoing question! The council were asked when that "vetting process" was complete how long before we could expect to see Norman back on the streets where he should be - that question was not answered. One of our local residents suggested council money that we pay be spent on body cams for our 2 ACSOs to protect them in the future from ridiculous accusations and provide evidence of assaults on them - especially following a recent assault on Lou. The local resident Alan said that he was sure that we would be happier to spend council money on that rather than new carpets for the council offices ! That was met with a resounding round of applause and the council felt that it was definately something that should be discussed at a later date. Norms wife spoke out about the lack of support that they had received as a family (despite the statement from the council suggesting otherwise) .. Everyone was behind her when she spoke. I was touched to be able to finally meet Jackie. Councillor Malcolm Wade made a very accurate and strong and amazing speech in support of Norman and ended by suggesting that the Council do everything they can to support Norman and get in back in role as soon as possible if that is something he wants to do. Malcolm Wades speech was also met with a massive round of applause. This petition will continue to run until Norman is reinstated. Your support is required now more than ever. Please keep encouraging people to sign and share this. If you have friends or colleagues or residents who are unable to access it then please assist them to sign it ! or alternatively get in touch with me and I will provide a paper copy for you to have to collect signatures.
