Dear Petitioners,
Get ready! Tomorrow, Monday, June 2nd, at 6:00 PM, is “the big day” for our movement! 🎉 We will formally present the Clean Slate Petition to the Zebulon Board of Commissioners. Our petition clearly outlines the widespread and profound loss of public trust due to concerns about transparency, accountability, and integrity in our town's leadership.
|| We need YOU there! 🤝 Please join us at the Board meeting to stand in solidarity. Your presence is crucial. There's strength in numbers – not only to stand firm against any intimidation or targeting, but more importantly, to visibly demonstrate the collective will, hope, and deep desire we all share for a better Zebulon. Let's fill the room with positive energy for the restoration of trust, transparency, and good governance! ✨
At this meeting, we will specifically be asking Commissioners Shannon Baxter, Amber Davis, and Jessica Harrison (those not up for re-election this fall) to honor the will of the people by submitting their resignations effective November 4, 2025. This crucial step would allow for a special election this November, giving Zebulon voters the chance to elect new representatives for these seats. The core question to them will be: "Will you listen to the will of the people, as expressed in this petition, and resign to allow the citizens of Zebulon a chance to elect new representation for these seats in November? And, if not, why not?" 🤔
Our petition also serves as a formal notice of the community's lost confidence in Mayor Glenn York and Commissioner Quentin Miles, whose terms are up this fall. Commissioner Beverly Clark has bravely already joined us in calling for comprehensive change.
|| AMAZING Signature Update! ✍️ We are thrilled to announce that even with a few more signatures trickling in, we have 101 live, in-person signatures on paper! 📝 This incredible feat was achieved in just 10 days with limited availability during "non-working" hours. We are SO incredibly proud of our community for pivoting with us and making that extra effort after we experienced sabotage of our online petition. It truly shows that the passion for this petition goes far beyond the convenience of an online click! 💪
In total, between the online signatures (before the sabotage) and these dedicated offline efforts, we are confidently over 425 signatures! We're still carefully calibrating the final official number to avoid any double-counting, but plan to have this number down by tomorrow.
To put this into perspective, the number of signatures we've gathered since launching publicly on April 29th surpasses the number of votes received by nearly every sitting Board member in their last election:
- Beverly Clark (206 votes)
- Shannon Baxter (378 votes)
- Amber Davis (378 votes)
- Quentin Miles (405 votes)
- Jessica Harrison (412 votes)
- Mayor Glenn York (463 votes)
While we anticipate the Commissioners might argue that our petition doesn't necessarily reflect the sentiments of all their past or future supporters, our collective voice cannot and should not be invalidated. The people who signed this petition are legitimate, and so is the profound disappointment in the current Board. Ignoring this united public outcry would be a failure to acknowledge the will of the people the Board must serve.
|| The Fight Continues! 💪This is a significant step, but it's not the end.
