Today I finally received a response from Jenny Aitchison the Minister for Regional Transport and the State member for Maitland. Unfortunately, we are still being fobbed off. Ms Aitchison claims that there are currently no plans to re-open the line??? To which I say "Not true"! There have been plans to do so for over 20 years now. Ms Aitchison then went on to talk about tram corridors in Newcastle. Well, trams in Newcastle are all well and good, but this is of no use to the people of Cessnock. I have of course replied telling her this and adding that I believe that reopening of the Cessnock railway line to passenger services is much more necessary than resumption of the Newcastle tramway and that the trams should come after the reopening of the Cessnock railway line. Although there is much talk of tram corridors in Newcastle, I don't see any of these happening either. Obviously, I'm feeling quite annoyed, but I'm not going to give up. If any of you would like to write to Minister Aitchison and also the Premier Minns, then this would be of great help. Please also let others know of the petition so that they can sign as well.
