On March 24, 2021, The United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit denied without explanation the Kollenburn’s second emergency motion to stay the euthanasia of Lladk pending consideration of other issues. While the denial of the second emergency motion on March 24, clears the way for Lladk’s execution immediately after the current injunction order ends on March 27, the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners has reportedly agreed to consider the possibility of Lladk’s release to a sanctuary next week. The County Board of Commissioners meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will not be euthanizing Llakd while discussions continue.
This does not necessarily mean that the Commissioners have had a change of heart. Their intransigence for the past 7 months to consider any alternatives to killing is well known and documented. But they may be responding to public disapproval. Continue making sure your voices are heard and to remember what John Lewis, the revered civil rights activist taught us: To create the change you want to see “Make good trouble.”
