Space to Cycle Protest 6pm Saturday outside Spark, Piccadilly

Two years on from starting this petition and we're outraged. The latest plans for the redevelopment of Piccadilly (agenda item 7) throw cyclists under a bus.
We're going to be protesting to make our feelings known and we'd like as many of you as possible to come and join us outside Spark on Piccadilly this Saturday at 6pm. Bring your placards, bring your bike, bring your kids, bring your neighbours and come and make a noise! And join us for a drink afterwards at Spark.
We've been raising concerns about these plans since 2019 and, despite being asked to look into more cycle-friendly designs, officers continue to recommend a traffic sewer into the heart of York. The designs fail to meet the latest Government guidance and do nothing for active travel.
We're asking the council to enforce existing traffic restrictions which should reduce the volume of traffic to around one third of what it is now. And we'll also be requesting design features to calm the remaining traffic to 20 mph, allowing the street to be cycle friendly and in compliance with Government Guidance (LTN1/20).
Please come and add your voice, and if you can't make the protest please consider contacting the Executive member for Transport, Cllr Andy D’Agorne, to make your feelings known, and/or speaking at the council meeting on Tuesday at 10am.
