Make an exception to the BC Hydro Upgrade Mandate and give SBC Restaurant Ltd. a Business License so they can operate.

The Issue

SBC Restaurant is a progressive business idea for the Down Town East Side which has measurable positive impacts for the neighborhood and City at large.

SBC provides a safe place to go on the 100 Block of East Hastings (near Main). It puts people from different backgrounds in touch with one another. SBC makes people happy.

SBC needs to be able to operate at full capacity, offering healthy food and athletic  and creative outlets through skateboarding, music and art. Vancouver needs a place like SBC and the owners Malcolm Hassin and Andrew Turner should not be forced to endure the immediate costs of an upgrade being demanded by BC Hydro($30 000). Also, SBC should be given a business license for a period of 3.5 years (the remainder of their lease befor renewal) in order to have a chance to succeed and pay for the upgrade. The two young entrepreneurs have overcome many great odds to have brought their project as far as they have.
