West Swan - Henley Brook Community Group started this petition to City of Swan - Western Australia

If you drive down Woolcott Avenue at night you will see abundant wildlife, large groups of kangaroos foraging for food and water.  During the day Woolcott is a leafy avenue with beautiful tall trees, throwing their shade over  a wide verge and wildlife corridor.  A natural culvert provides fresh water and it is just idyllic.  The Swan Valley is iconic for its beautiful vineyards, restaurants, vegetable stalls and boutique produce.

Recently house and land packages have taken place of the grassy paddocks home to simply 100's if not 1000's of kangaroos.  They have adapted by moving onto our wide verges and lifestyle blocks adjacent to the new sub-divisions.  They do not choose to live next to fast cars, dogs and people but are now land and road locked out of safer shelter.

Recently the City of Swan have proposed to widen Woolcott Avenue in a letter to residents the shire explains "The work is being undertaken to address the deterioration of the existing road as well as to facilitate the growing development in the area and expected increase in traffic flow".

The proposed works include:

- Widening the road from 6.4 m chip seal to 9.4 m asphalt surface providing two 3.5 m lanes with a 1.2 m shoulder.

- Reconstruction to the existing road pavement and resurface with asphalt.

- Modification to West Swan Road intersection to accommodate change in road width.

- Vegetation Clearing trees removal to accommodate road widening and installation of road widening

Please help us save this pristine piece of bush, preserve it for future generations of humans and native animals to enjoy and live harmoniously.  We are the Iconic Swan Valley, never meant for dense population and Asphalt paths. The developments referred to by the City of Swan  have purpose built roads which join the new 'North Link' Tonkin Highway which are more than capable of carrying the increased traffic.

A Swan Valley Bill was created in 2019 to protect us from knee-jerk upgrades by whom ever feels fit to make decisions on behalf of our community. I have asked the City of Swan for an impact study, was told that  none have been done as it is just a simple road upgrade.
