NO on Proposed Solvang 2.0
The Issue
The City of Solvang is courting a Proposed Solvang 2.0. This is a development presented to the Solvang City Council by developer Ed St. George. The development under consideration is bordered by Alisal Road, Maple, and Pine Street in Solvang and includes actions against the historical Veterans Memorial Building. A study conducted and reported on by REVPAR was presented to Solvang’s Planning Commission in 2014. Basically, the development proposed wasn’t economically beneficial. There is also concern regarding the legality of removing/demolishing the Veterans Memorial Hall which is even described on the Solvang website as, “A local landmark built more than a half century ago“. A similar proposal was made in the city of Paso Robles. There is legal precedence established against such action. The proposal needs more public discussion and City Council transparency. This is a time of clear economic pressure and such decisions should not be taken lightly. Further discussions of this proposal by the Solvang City Council should be postponed until such a time as we are able to give our voice directly. Please make your voice heard!
