This new City ordinance would prohibit anyone from using the title Architect or practicing Architecture without first registering with the Arizona Board of Technical Registration for a license to practice Architecture. Architecture is an Arizona recognized profession. The Architectural profession is charged by the state of Arizona to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public through the rigorous requirements for licensure. The pathway to licensure is Education, Internship, Examination and Registration. In every state in the U.S., it is illegal (and in most cases it is a felony violation) to use the title Architect and practice Architecture without a license. That is the original intention of the laws in Arizona as well but the laws are being misinterpreted and are not enforced; putting the public in harm’s way.
