Save The Greyhound Hotel St Kilda from demolition

The issue

People love St Kilda for its history, character, community and culture.  It attracts thousands of visitors a year as a top destination to experience in Melbourne.  In recent years, St Kilda has been losing its character to demolition and the development of low quality, high mass apartment dwellings.

The Greyhound Hotel at 1 Brighton Rd, St Kilda is the latest target. It's heritage, architecture and colourful history is in grave danger of being replaced by an 8 storey apartment and commercial development. The plans and designs for proposed development are at best hideous.  It will be an eyesore and significantly devalue the streetscape experience and erase the identity of the local precinct.

Most importantly, The Greyhound Hotel is an iconic gateway into the village of St Kilda on Carlisle St.  When you see the Greyhound you know you've reached St Kilda. Losing her, will mean losing an icon and much loved character in our community.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

1. Sign this petition by midday, Tuesday 6th December, to be presented in person to Council at the City Port Phillip Council Statutory Planning meeting (Mayor and Councillors in attendance).

AND/OR

2. Submit your personal objection to Council directly via: https://eservices.portphillip.vic.gov.au/ePathway/Production/Web/GeneralEnquiry/EnquiryDetailView.aspx?Id=914307
