Bring charges against woman caught abandoning kittens
The Issue
On the night of October 10th a Good Samaritan witnessed somebody dumping helpless animals in the cold night. He was able to take a picture of her license plates, and after assuring the mother cat and her 5 kittens were unharmed, contacted the police. Once on the scene the police were able to indentify the perpetrator BUT DECLINED TO TAKE ACTION.
The officer in charge wanted to return the cats to the person who had callously dumped them less than an hour before!
This is when I stepped in and said I would be taking the animals if animal control wasn’t coming. The officer shrugged and said he “couldn’t” persue anything without first offering to let her “do the right thing.” This is absolute madness - when somebody robs a bank, are they given an opportunity to return the money before they get booked?
I argued with the officer that this course of action would not be in the animal’s best interest. He didn’t attempt to disuede me from taking the cats, but said there’s be no further action. He tried to tell me animal abandonment wasn’t a crime, he tried to tell me animal neglect wasn’t a crime. He tried to say it wasn’t /really/ abandonment because somebody found them. Anything to avoid doing his actual job!
Please tell the city and police department that this is unacceptable! Tell them we demand justice for crimes against the defenseless, and that we will not accept police with poor work ethics!

“As I pulled into the parking lot just before closing time I noticed a white Lexus SUV sitting in a handicap spot. There was an Asian woman and a little girl that were standing next to the SUV they had a cage with a blanket and they were looking very nervous.
As I looked away I caught them running up the entrance of the store, tossing the cage up against the wall and running back to their SUV, jumping in and speeding off. As soon as I figured out what they were doing I grabbed my phone and got a photo and video of them as they sped away.

I had the store call the Plano Police and they took a report but they're not going to pursue any charges”
