Pittsburgh's Strip District is an important area of the city for shopping, businesses, and even residents with the growth of nearby Lawrenceville and Bloomfield as up-and-coming residential areas. In order to make Pittsburgh truly the most livable city, we need to embrace such an important area and ensure that it stays bustling. To that end, the area MUST be safe for pedestrian traffic. The Strip District has become a danger to pedestrians as more traffic uses this vein to access Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, multiple interstates, downtown, the north shore, and the strip district itself. Everyday thousands of commuters and strip district shoppers put their lives in harm's way to cross Penn Avenue, Liberty Avenue, Smallman Street, and all the adjoining streets. Accidents involving pedestrians and vehicles are, unfortunately, not uncommon to hear about on the news. On more than one occasion, the individuals involved in these accidents have been killed. The signers of this petition ask the City of Pittsburgh to PLEASE take this matter to heart and consider the seriousness of the matter and to implement traffic control through the means of traffic lights, stop signs, and enforcement.
