Hello again supporters!

Word is starting to spread about the events of our petition presentation at June 22nd’s City Commission Meeting, and with it, there is misinformation being actively spread as well.

I wrote an article for the Manhattan Mercury last week, pointing out how that paper’s lack of basic journalistic integrity (no interviews, no research on the issue) severely misrepresented issues of food insecurity in Northview. The Mercury misinformed the public on the efforts community members have been taking to hold the City of Manhattan accountable for failing to address food insecurity, and actively ignoring community voices to install a kitchen at the Eisenhower Community Center.

Even more troubling, Mayor Wynn Butler has taken to facebook as a way of further attempting to delegitimize community voices on this issue. Mayor Butler has continued to try and spin the issue, and has repeatedly sidestepped the city staff and officials’ role and obligation to practice equity - and to serve public interests. Worse, he’s continued to ignore basic accountability as a public servant. His actions and his disingenuous narrative have serious consequences for the health and wellbeing of Manhattan.

Needless to say - stay tuned. I’ll be writing another article to respond to Wynn’s social media storytelling in full, and we will continue raising pressure on the City of Manhattan.

Help us by spreading the word about this petition!
