Morrison Hotel owners sue to stop Los Angeles from declaring it a nuisance - 1pm press conference

Dear friend of the Morrison Hotel,

Thank you being among the first 750 people to sign the petition urging Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Councilmember Ysabel Jurado to use the power of their offices to find a preservation solution for the Morrison Hotel, and put the brakes on its possible demolition.

Unfortunately, the situation has deteriorated, with the Board of Building and Safety Commission recently voting to declare the Morrison Hotel a public nuisance.

That 8/25/2026 vote happened at a hearing that the owners, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, say they were never told about, so no one was there to describe what they’ve done to secure the building or their ongoing efforts to obtain permits to begin restoration. Then on 9/29/2026, LADBS posted an order giving AHF one day to station a security guard on site 24/7.

On 10/7/2026, AHF went to court and filed a petition for writ of mandate (LA Superior Court case 26STCP03858). It asks a judge to throw out the nuisance finding and guard order and to stop the City from moving toward forced demolition. AHF says the 1913 building by master architects Morgan, Walls & Morgan is still structurally sound and that it wants the City’s support to restore it as affordable housing for 111 people.
