The San Lorenzo Creek watershed is a natural resource for water, native plants, and wildlife habitat that drains into the eastern shore of the SF Bay. Our neighborhood is along this creek and we see deer and their young, egrets, hawks, wild turkeys, etc. The City of Hayward recently disregarded guidelines for developing near creeks and they disregarded input from the watershed's task force that aims to protect and restore the creek as well as to improve water quality and quality of life. Instead, the City of Hayward approved a project proposal (41 expensive MARKET-RATE residences) to subdivide a 5.1 Acre Site into 45 parcels, which is originally zoned for 5 houses. The project does NOT contain any onsite affordable housing units. Every environmental and safety concern about this project proposal was disregarded by The City of Hayward at the public hearing. They disregarded the fact that The City of Hayward's website has webpages dedicated to creeks and bay. Despite being a Certified Tree City, they APPROVED REMOVAL of nearly every tree, amounting to the removal of over 50 trees, including a tree that is over 100 years old. Please support our efforts to have The City of Hayward follow the Ordinance that regulates contruction alongside creeks. The City of Hayward's website states "We need everyone's involvement to protect and strengthen Hayward's environment..." Let's hold them to their word!
