It is NOW time to take the next step in saving the “Crown Jewel” of Fort Collins.
The Issue
PATHS Mission: We are the FOCO community aligned in finding a more sustainable, community friendly alternative to the Hughes Redevelopment.
Our Community is speaking! Our recent Change.org petition got over 3700 signatures and the numbers are still climbing. Our Community does not want the Lennar Plan for the Hughes Property.
It is NOW time to take the next step in saving the “Crown Jewel” of Fort Collins. Demand that the City listen to the Community on the Zoning Process, not Lennar Homes and Colorado State University (CSU).
The Community told CSU that they wanted Open Space, Workforce Housing and/or a Community venue during the Community Outreach Sessions. These sessions were held before CSU issued their Request for Proposals (RFP). Never once did the Community say they wanted 600 to 700 homes in the Hughes Space. The community told the City and Lennar in two separate meetings that they did not want this development. Fort Collins spoke loudly, opposing Lennar’s plans on April 4, 2019 during a community meeting held at the Drake Center and again at a community meeting on May 22, 2019.
Not only is the Community not being listened to, the City has waited for Lennar’s development plan to be submitted so that a zoning map amendment can be done in tandem with the development plan review process. (What this means is that the zoning and development plan will be evaluated in a short period of time with very little time for Community input.)
What we, the Community, want is:
1. A Zoning Map Amendment to be initiated immediately.
2. For the City to seek and listen to meaningful input from the Community regarding the zoning of the Hughes property.
3. For the Zoning Map Amendment to be completed prior to any development plan being considered.
Our objective is to find a more sustainable, community-friendly alternative to the current subdivision planned at the Old Hughes Stadium location. We want an alternative which will meet the needs of the community and preserve the “Crown Jewel” of Fort Collins.
