Petition updateSave Edinburgh’s Greenbelt at Brunstane from DevelopmentRevealed - New developments in and around Portobello to cause massive population increase & impact
Save Brunstane GreenbeltEdinburgh, SCT, United Kingdom
Sep 12, 2016
Today's Evening News reports on the plans to create 2,500+ new houses/flats in and around Portobello - that's about 7,000 more people (equivalent to a town the size of Dunbar). http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/our-region/edinburgh/portobello/plans-reveal-2500-homes-to-be-built-in-portobello-transformation-1-4227666 This would "put untold pressure on public infrastructure at a time when many services are already struggling." The Brunstane Fields proposal accounts for more than half (1,330) of the new units. We're crowd-funding a legal challenge to this development - you can support us by making a pledge here: https://www.crowdjustice.co.uk/case/save-green-belt-at-brunstane/ We've now raised over £4,000 - many thanks for that! Please help us to get to our next target (£5,500) so that we can pay for a QC to advise us. And please tell your neighbours and friends! As well as the extra pressure on NHS services etc., this Brunstane development would also cause severe traffic congestion. For example, EDI's own planning application forecasts that average waiting times at the Milton Link Junction (A1 N/bound) during the morning peak will increase from less than 2.5 minutes (now) to almost 5 minutes in 2020 (with the Brunstane development complete). EDI's proposals to mitigate this increase in traffic are woefully inadequate. And the effect on Newcraighall Road will be even more serious. The knock-on effect would spread out across SE Edinburgh. This area simply can't absorb this amount of extra people (and their cars).
