Hello,
See our final Roseburn Vision document at http://tinyurl.com/roseburnvision
Today we gave a bound copy to every Cllr at the Transport & Environment (T&E) Committee - at their 10am meeting this morning.
The SNP Group will arrange for our scheme to be priced. It will now be considered at the crunch T&E meeting as an alternative to the cycling officers plan, either on 30th August or 1st November. It will be considerably cheaper. It protects Roseburn and Haymarket. If you like it, tell everyone you know. Post it on Facebook- use the link http://tinyurl.com/roseburnvision
Write to the Evening News at letters_en@edinburghnews.com to say you think the Council should support our Vision. If you put the link in your e-mail- they might just print your letter with it in. Remember to give your address; they won’t use any letter without it.
Also, please call upon your ward Councillors to adopt the Roseburn Vision as Council policy- find them at www.writetothem.com
We showed our unhappiness with the Transport & Environment (T&E) Committee meeting by walking out as soon as it started. We sat down 10 minutes before the T&E Committee meeting began. As soon as Cllr Hinds opened her mouth to speak at the beginning of the meeting all 6 of us got up and walked out, Liz at the front waving a placard saying “Save our Shops at Roseburn & Haymarket- Stop the Track”. Cllr Hinds was in full flow and said nothing, but the other Cllrs certainly saw what was happening.
As we exited the City Chambers, STV were waiting for us. I hope there will be a good piece on STV Edinburgh. I’ll send out the link if and when we get on telly!
We told STV about the shadowy Council working group the “Edinburgh Active Travel Forum (see http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20087/cycling_and_walking/1155/active_travel_forums_for_walking_and_cycling). The Forum gave the City the dreadful scheme in the first place.
The Council claims the Forum to be open to all yet Cllr Hinds refuses to let Roseburn or Haymarket campaigners join. At the last meeting, Cllr Hinds presented a skewed assessment of the protest against the track- read pages 26-30 of her powerpoint (at http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/download/downloads/id/7350/active_travel_forum_-_03_march_2016_-_presentation.pptx ) to see how she plays down the concerns of those who oppose her, all of us who wrote in, back in January.
Most of the Forum members are cycling groups- previous few are walkers. A key Forum member is Henry Whalley of the Royal Bank of Scotland Bicycle Users Group who has rubbished the Roseburn Vision scheme on his website at www.roseburncycleroute.org.uk/roseburn-vision
Henry and his Spokes chums out against our Vision again at the last Murrayfield Community Council meeting on 31st May when I presented it to local folk at a packed AGM. Henry is a nice local man, but also a deluded evangelist for the protected cycle track scheme. He will fight tooth and nail to see the Roseburn Vision defeated; he organised the petition in support of the Council scheme back in January which mustered 800 signatures www.ipetitions.com/petition/support-roseburn-west-coates-protected-cycle-route (ours is at around 4,000 now).
Please send an e-mail to postmaster@roseburn32.plus.com if you want to be added to the mailing list for more regular updates.
Best wishes
Pete Gregson
