He’s finally FREE! This morning, after one year, nine months and 21 days, Rusty was released from Dallas Animal Services and brought to an animal boarding, training and rehabilitation facility outside of the City of Dallas where he will live out the remainder of his life. After the City’s arguments were denied by two county courts, an appellate court and the Supreme Court of Texas, the case returned to the county courts. Rather than continue with the expense and uncertainty of litigation the parties reached a compromise, which is common in lawsuits.
We want to thank all of his supporters for their encouragement, donations and advocacy throughout this nearly two-year battle for Rusty’s life and freedom. We are also grateful for the employees at Dallas Animal Services for their care of Rusty throughout this process, because of that care Rusty remains a happy and energetic dog.
We have estimated that it will cost $20,000 for Rusty to live out the remainder of his life at this facility, so we have set up a Facebook fundraising page as well as a fund on our website https://dallaspetsalive.org/ to help us reach this goal. Rusty’s supporters have been so kind and generous, sending him bones, treats and toys, which clearly helped him pass the time he spent at Dallas Animal Services. We welcome any assistance in paying for his long-term care, and donations for his care may be made via our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DallasPetsAlive/ or on our website http://bit.ly/donatetoDPA and note that the donation is for Rusty. Dallas Pets Alive did not want to ask for any financial assistance until we knew his fate and we are so thankful that we can start this fund for him now.
We will be posting photos and videos on our social media channels, so be sure to follow us for continued updates on Rusty as he transitions into his new life. Dallas Pets Alive is beyond thankful for all of your continued support that has allowed us to not only save his life but have a lasting impact on other dogs just like him.
