Drop the speed limit on Hope Road, Bibra Lake to protect residents and wildlife

The issue

With a massive new interchange at the one end, Hope Road in Bibra Lake is now more attractive than ever to commuters taking a short cut through our suburbs and our beautiful wetlands. In their haste to take the short cut, most drivers ignore the 50km/hr speed limit on Progress Drive, endangering walkers, cyclists and families using the playgrounds. Drivers frequently ignore the road rules at slow points and roundabouts too.

Users of the Wetlands Centre, the Scouts and Native Ark are in danger of being hit by speeding drivers as they try to exit those venues.

By night, Hope Road and Progress Drive provides a play ground for speeding drivers. Last year,  at least 11 oblong turtles were run over in a single night.

We urge Cockburn Council to:  drop the speed limit to a maximum of 60km/hour on Hope Road and consider urgent traffic calming measures to counteract the thousands of new cars that 'Murdoch Drive Connect' will bring to our local roads.
