Dear Supporters:
Three years ago you signed our petition to save Green Gate Farms and by doing that you stopped a developer in his tracks.
Your passion and concern for green space and historic preservation made Roberts Resorts realize that it could not bulldoze the Bergstrom barn or eliminate our farm as planned. Instead, our farm and Roberts (mediated by the City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability) began crafting a plan for an agrihood – a neighborhood of tiny homes around our farm.
The good news is that TBG Landscaping has created a design that preserves the farm’s historic buildings and four acres for production. The bad news is that our negotiations are not quite done.
Bulldozers now encircle the farm. They are poised to pave the outer green vestiges of Green Gate Farms as Roberts creates his vision of a new American Dream writ small.
But like an heirloom rose your grandmother could recognize and name, Green Gate Farms remains as Austin’s little corner of diversity and ancestral memory.
Today, Giving Tuesday, we want to thank you, deeply and explicitly, for giving us so much support and encouragement through this journey. It isn’t ending but it is taking a new turn and sharper focus as we dig in at our Bastrop farm for 2019. See www.greengatefarms.net for details how you can help.
Looking ahead, we want to welcome you to our Bastrop farm in the new year. Once this move is behind us, you will be getting an invitation to tour the farm and taste the very same diversity you helped cultivate at the Austin farm.
Thank you for taking a stand and for supporting our community farm.
