They Hate Business.

The Bangor Daily News reports today  that The (Democratic) Socialists of Portland want to kill more commerce. Lead by the recently evicted and -ex mayor Ethan Strimling, the group proposes via referendum among other things:

1) Limitations on Cruise Ship visitors ( What next? Limit how many visitors can exit 295 and the Maine Turnpike to visit Portland on a daily basis?

2) Limitations on Short term rentals ( They've always conflated work force housing with high end rentals. They pit one group of people against another)

3) A minimum wage increase to $18 hour ( Small business which make up the core of downtown Celebrate!)

Recent Portland Socialist "success  stories" includes their Green New Deal and the increase of affordable units required in new construction both have which have  crushed new building permits and put a squash on housing development. Their remodel 4 schools-at- once approach without the backstop of the state is massively over budget.
