Build a bridge in Lethbridge, south of Whoop Up Drive, to connect the southern ends of our great city!

The Issue

Lethbridge is separated by a river which divides two large residential centers, industrial areas , shopping centers, and two learning institutions. A significant portion of the population in the City of Lethbridge live in the south parts of both the east and west sides of Lethbridge. At one point in time there were plans for a southern bridge that would connect the city. There is even land that is currently not in use that would work perfectly for making such a bridge.

Connecting our city would provide: Housing options for those attending the Lethbridge College. Lower ambulance response times. Lower transit and commute time for various citizens. Relieve strain on bus routes and allow a greater ease of transportation to and from the West and South sides. A bridge would also significantly lower gasoline consumption from those who must commute over the river 2 to 6 times per day.

The West and East sides are building more and more to the south and a large expansion to the Lethbridge College is currently underway. This new road will hopefully decongest traffic on Whoop Up Drive, Bridge Drive, and University Drive.

By spreading out the traffic, the amount of time spent commuting will decrease, as will the number of motor vehicle collisions. This has been previously discussed in Lethbridge Counsel meetings and it's time to act.  Its time for change.

A majority of people on both sides of the city want this. My hope is that this petition will change the minds of the Lethbridge Council and Ministry of Transportation to bring them to use the plans that have already been drawn, and get this project into action.
