Open work permits will only be granted to those who have done so. That said, we will be monitoring the pilot closely and will assess on any possible next steps as we go. If people do fall out of status, they can apply for restoration (90 days after loss of status), or they can leave Canada and apply to come back on a valid TRV. The Minister's Office has confirmed directly to us in writing that the Out of Status inland spouses are not qualified for OWP under the pilot project. The information that was shared by CIC Call Centre agent was incorrect. We sincerely apologize! ****THIS MESSAGE IS NO LONGER VALID**** UPDATE: It has been unofficially confirmed that as of today, according to an internal Ministerial instruction email, Out of Status inland spouses waiting in the queue for Inland sponsorship AIPs will also qualify for Open Work Permit under pilot program. These people can now mail in their OWP applications to Unit 777 of CPC-Vegreville.
