Inland SponsorshipEdmonton, AB, Kanada
28.05.2015 — P: Hi Guys Just a quick farewell note from me and my wife. We have decided to withdraw our PR / sponsorship inland apps and delivered all appropriate paperwork to CPC Mississauga earlier this week. I will leave Canada mid June, my wife will join me soon afterwards. Just for the record: we are a married Canadian-European couple, applied October 2014 with all the kit, namely fees paid in full, police and med checks done, photos and certificates attached, all this rubbish as required. Interestingly, when withdrawing one of the things you have to provide CIC with is “the reason” and that’s what I’d like to share with you. I decided to end this madness because: 1. beyond any doubt CIC actions are partly illegal. CIC massively violates the presumption of innocence principle; changes to the program are applied retroactively; CIC claims the right to process selected files indefinitely; internal CIC regulations infringe a number of international conventions and treaties; CIC pretends to have investigatory, police-like powers which by law it does not have and so on. However: 2. none of the applicants involved in this Kafkaesque process have any means of redress / remedies at their disposal. Every single decision CIC renders is strictly arbitrary. CIC is also out of any democratic (including parliamentary), legal and moral control 3. all CIC is about is anything but a fair, transparent, official routine it should be. Instead CIC offers a kangaroo court of sorts which principle feature is the 19th century nationalism (with racist episodes we’ve observed recently). This Canadian “processing” has nothing to do with objective assessment of any cases timely or orderly. What I have witnessed instead had been a never-ending festival of politicized, ideologically charged fanaticism accompanied with dated, quasi-authoritarian propaganda almost enthusiastically applauded by the majority of uninformed Canadians (“Privilege” discourse, “Canadians First” - actually why not "Competences, Skills and Innovation First”?). Maybe it’s a question of education / awareness, maybe it's a kind of some local tradition - hard to say, but in any case I certainly did not move to this country to educate its citizens or to be a subject of political rituals 4. at present we live in Quebec, which means that at some point I would be required to sign a declaration of unconditional loyalty to this province and its “values” (as directly indicated in Quebec’s app). This I simply cannot do no matter what 5. CIC is radically unprofessional. No need to elaborate on this I think, maybe except that on top of it all, CIC attitude is just deeply offensive 6. this whole immigration thing in Canada appears to be a financial scheme. Quite obviously CIC tries to earn as much money off applicants as possible (and, to the best of my knowledge, CIC is not mandated to generate income), over the course of 2+ years providing very little to no service in return 7. I figure that the process is purposive in a sense that it’s designed towards applying for the Canadian citizenship at its final stages (a few years after the PR is granted). This is clearly a misunderstanding - I am not and have never been interested in any other citizenships than the one I enjoy now, not to mention that some applicants simply cannot accept second passport (if I am not mistaken this is the case with people from Japan and Germany who, in terms of their integrity and cultural identity, would be ultimately forced to make a potentially dramatic choice). Also, back home nobody expects my wife to become European or Polish - in fact we are happy with her being a Canadian and that’s it. In my view this citizenship-centered obsession is peculiar 8. finally, although it is highly subjective, I really can’t help thinking that Canada seems to believe that this country literally owns - possesses - both its Citizens and foreigners living here for whatever reason. There is no notion of personal freedom in this at all and frankly I find it very oppressive. I wish all of you the best of luck. Let’s hope things will improve after the elections but personally I am sceptical… for most likely CIC will remain pretty much the same. No bureaucracy (no matter left or right) will ever give away the powers it once acquired. Thanks for having us in the group, it really helped a great deal to catalyze our decision and so it saved us a lot of energy, time and money. Fingers crossed for all your applications and plans in Canada! All best, PL ------------ D I applaud your courage and your decision. This is a highly demeaning process and I think that from time to time, everyone involved should reassess whether going through with this is the best thing for you as a couple and for you as individuals. There are (subjectively) better places to be in. Good luck! ------------ T If you change your mind, apply outland. European citizen process is very very fast. Good luck. ------------ M This is exactly why they make the process so convoluted....so people give up in frustration. Sorry you had to go through this PL I. ------------ E Natalie Ouimet , Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Nicholas Keung,Chris Alexander - Thanks to this "perfect system" people are withdrawing applications and leaving Canada to be able to live as recognized human beings and families. THANKS A LOT! This country has lost a committed family and has lost one of its own citizens. If this is exactly what CIC wants, why would they bother asking for the reasons to withdraw the application? Do they want couples to say "O, we withdraw because we are fake"? Minister Chris Alexander everything will be paid off, the karma is there ------------ T Everytime CIC wants to make the sponsor/spouse give up. Check what king questions they make on landing interview. "Are you sure you want to sponsor your spouse for 36 months?". "Do still want to sponsor your spouse? "... The guide is clear: after a decision, the sponsor can not gives up anymore. ------------ A I am extremely touched by your message, PL. I'm sad you leave but I agree completely with the critics and the reasons you mention. I'm sure many of us are willing to return to their country of origin to live better ! Clearly, I felt bullied, was arbitrarily judged by people who have no jurisdiction/no competence. I lost my dignity and belief in this country that does not care human rights....I'm with you P
